As the track season comes to a close, the team is preparing to compete at the Meet of Champions. Boys and Girls Track have been very successful this year at their meets. Senior Matt Mccaron, made it to States in the 1600 run on June 10 and is ending his high school running career on a high note.

“I think the team is looking really sharp right now.,” Mccarron said.“I mean we have places in high jump, 400 hurdles, things we were weak on last season and now I think we’re very strong.”

Many Boys Track team members have been placing in high ranking this year.  Senior Joel Blamon’s PR jump ranked second in the county. Along with, runners Ryan Malinowski, Patrick Storti, Ryan Coceano, and Derek Coceano being Group 2 sectional champions.

A lot of track boys are seniors and have become close through the sport. Some plan to continue their running career, like seniors Alex Boyko and Malicah Etienne. Macaron, being a 4 year runner, got very close with everyone and created great bonds with his teammates.

“I mean I’ve been close to them since my freshman year, probably even before that and going everyday even in the summer and training with them,” Mccaron said.

Girls Track won their division this year which was a big accomplishment for them. Coach Derek Moore is one of the people that helped make this possible.

“We had Kozette Quinn advance in the 100 meter and in long jump, Naa’ilah Munson in the long jump, Anna Marino and Kellyn Coller got through in the 800 meters,“ Moore said. “Stephanie Renouf got through in the 2-mile, she placed third.  We had Lea Del Grippo win sectional champs in the discus.“

The girls had many people getting good results at their meets which reflected in their placements. Though they are losing seniors, Coach Moore has high hopes for next year.

“We had a lot of depth this year, so I think we´ll be able to make up for that. Just use the depth that you have,“ Moore said.

Due to the air quality around the State meet,, they combined a two-day meet into a  long one day meet,  on Saturday, June 10th

At the State Meet, the girls 4×800 relay team of Stephanie Renouf, Sam Magin, Anna Marino, and Kellyn Coller placed second with a time of 9:49.59, which secured them a spot in the Meet of Champions.

Senior Lea DelGrippo also placed second in the discus with a PR of 119-1.
