The CHS golf team dominated their season finishing with a record of 16-1. Upperclassmen showcased strong performances while younger golfers on the team showed a lot of growth and potential.
The team, led by head coach Bret Jenkins, had one of its most successful seasons with an impressive group of golfers. They finished undefeated in their division.
“Our biggest challenge is we have so many good golfers, it’s tough to get everyone into matches,” Jenkins said. “We have 21 on the team, and you can only play six in a match.”
Sophomore Jackson Lane won the Carl Arena Memorial Tournament for the first time in school history in addition to having the lowest round at the BCSL where he shot a 62.
“As a team I would like to do better in states. Last year we didn’t do our best but hopefully we can play well at sectionals, make it to states and perform better than last year,” Lane said.
At the BCSL Open the boys won and later finished fifth at sectionals after securing back-to-back titles in years past.
During the season, Coach Jenkins helps his golfers by making sure they stay focused and understand the mental side of the sport.
“We talk a lot about the mental side of the game, and staying focused and locked in during matches and tournaments,” Jenkins said.
Senior captain on the girl’s side Emily Renouf shared how the number of female golfers has grown throughout the years. She talks about how being a captain is an opportunity she values allowing her to help younger teammates improve.
“We have two more girl golfers this year, Grace Kennelly (freshmen) and Paige Sorino (sophomore). They are both learning to golf and have been working really hard to learn the sport,” Renouf said.
Another standout on the boys side is senior Tyler Harris who shot a school record five under par this season and had some impressive performances.
No matter what the golf team’s team goals are, they stay driven and work hard each day. They continue to stay consistent and accomplish the goals they set for themselves.
