From the onset of the season, the CHS boys’ lacrosse team continued to build on last year’s historic success. After earning their first division title last season and finishing 11–6, the Pirates returned this year with a senior-heavy roster and determination to repeat.
Despite securing wins over Woodstown, RV, Sterling, and twice over Delran and Holy Cross, the boys ended the season 9-6 behind Northern Burlington. These victories demonstrate the Pirates’ ability to stay competitive despite important contributors graduating last season.
A major factor in this year’s success was freshman Marco Zuccarelli, who led the team with 39 goals. His performance reflects the team’s ability to combine experienced leadership with impactful young talent.
For senior Christian Feeley, this season carried added meaning as it was his final year in the program.
“It’s honestly quite upsetting. I was really excited for the start of the season, knowing it would be my last and that I could enjoy it,” Feeley said. “But it’s sad to leave all the people I’ve played with for so long. At the same time, I’m excited to see what the rest of them do.”
Feeley, who has played with many of his teammates for nearly eight years, emphasized the strong bonds built through the program.
“This team has been a brotherhood,” he said. “It was nice to see what we could finally accomplish together.”
He also credited the program for teaching lessons beyond the field.
“I’ve learned that lacrosse is a parallel to life,” Feeley said. “It’s a microcosm of life — how you act on the field translates to how you act in everyday life.”
Senior captain Ryan Eckard also recognizes the importance of this season, both personally and for the team.
“Being captain is a huge honor,” Eckard said. “I’ve been here for four years, so finally being able to come in as a senior and be a leader is a big deal. It puts me in a position where I have to lead the team.”
Eckard described this year’s team as an especially close group who grew up together.
“I think we’re honestly more of a family than usual,” he said. “Most of us are seniors who have been playing together since we were little kids, and now we want to win as much as we can.”
He also emphasized the importance of preparing younger players for the future.
“We let them know the future of the team is theirs. When we’re gone, they’re going to have to step up,” Eckard said.
Head coach Craig Angelini continued to lead the team with an emphasis on teamwork and shared contributions.
“We’ve been getting contributions from everyone, which is great,” Angelini said.
Angelini also expressed confidence in both the current team and the future of the program.
“They are a great group of guys, it’s a pleasure coaching them. It’s a lot of fun,” he said. “We’ve got a resilient bunch, some skilled freshmen coming up, and we’re keeping a large core of the team, so I think we’ll be fine.”
With strong senior leadership, a large freshman class, and good team morale, CHS boys’ lacrosse hopes to continue the success they’ve had in recent years.
