CHS News 2022
Chromebook distribution
One of the biggest news stories at Cinnaminson High School this past year was the distribution of Chromebooks to every student. Every student at the High School now has access to their Chromebook through their Cinnaminson account. This was a big technological transition and has resulted in more teachers making use of online assignments. So far it appears to be very successful and helpful to students.
Wellness Center
New this school year is the Wellness Center located in the old upstairs computer lab (B224). The Wellness Center is a space created for all members of the school to relax, practice mindfulness, and speak with a wellness counselor if desired. Upon entering the Wellness Center, students enter their student ID and check in where they can stay for 15 minutes. Students can also visit the Wellness Center for advice, mental health check-ins, and help with challenges they are facing, etc. There is always a counselor available at the Center to speak with students.
Removal of Masks – March 7th
On March 7, the mask mandate was removed, thus making masking optional at the school. This was the first day since March 13, 2020 that students were able to enter the school building without a face covering. It was a weird transition for many students and staff members. Some students chose to continue wearing masks while many did not. Entering the 2022-2023 school year the use of masks has almost disappeared.
Annual Pep rally returns & HoCo moved inside
This school year both the pep rally and homecoming were moved back inside. Having the pep rally in the gym was something that had only been experienced by the Class of 2023 – when they were freshmen! The pep rally went back to its original form and was successful in rallying a friendly rivalry between classes. This year’s Homecoming was also one to remember as more than 500 students attended the dance in the cafeteria.
Dr. McGhee and Dr. McCann
This past spring, two staff members defended their dissertations and earned their doctoral degrees. The first was Dr. Shawn McGhee, a history teacher. After an eight year journey, McGhee earned his doctorate in American History. The other new doctorate was earned by assistant principal Dr. Kaitlyn McCann. In only three years, McCann earned her doctorate in Multicultural Literature. Both staff members hope to educate and enrich the Cinnaminson community with the knowledge acquired on their doctoral journeys.
