Ms. Gartland
During Homecoming Spirit week in the middle of October, an “assembly” was held in the Commitment Gym where both students and staff were clueless about what its focus would be. After a big buildup, it was announced that CHS math teacher Riley Gartland was to receive the Milken Educator Award from Dr. Jane Foley, the Senior Vice President of the Milken Educator Awards. The Milken Award aims to recognize top teachers across the country who have made “impressive achievements” in their career; the foundation honors up to 75 educators per year. The assembly began with a performance from the band and cheerleaders, leading up to the announcement of the award itself. The excitement, tension, and anticipation all culminated in the announcement that Ms. Gartland would be the one to receive this prestigious award and with it a $25,000 prize.
Patrizi’s 100th Win
Cinnaminson High School celebrated Coach Mario Patrizi’s 100th win on August 25. The win itself was momentous, coming in a 42-0 game against the Palmyra Panthers. The Pirates maintained a win streak that would run until their game against Seneca during Week Eight. With the graduation of 20 seniors last year having a heavy impact on the team, these events were greatly celebrated and enjoyed.
6 CHS grads go to Ivy Leagues
The CHS senior class of 2023 had six graduates gain acceptance into Ivy League schools. These students were Alexander Boyko (UPenn), Emma Schrier (Princeton), Chelsea Bohn-Pozniak (Harvard), Sriram Elango (Harvard), Tyler Schill (Dartmouth), and Nicholas Olson (Brown). School counselor Michael Repsher attributes this success to their competitive drive and strategic usage of extracurriculars, with the students themselves attributing it to a combination of passion for what they were pursuing. With only seven other students having gone on to Ivy League schools in the last decade, this truly is a crowning achievement for these six CHS graduates.
ICDC – Deca
This past April, Cinnaminson High School’s DECA organization went to compete at the national level in Orlando, Florida. Making it to nationals required a large amount of preparation and advancement starting at the district level. Ten of DECA’s members won in their individual event on the district level in Cherry Hill, as well as the state level in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Additionally, DECA earned the right to take three more members on the trip due to the CHS Student Store winning a gold certification, which allowed them to compete in Florida.
Lip Dub
The CHS famous “Lip Dub” saw its return to Cinnaminson High School during the spring of this year, with anticipation that was noticeable in the air leading up to the event. The “Lip Dub” is an all-inclusive event, with everyone in the school participating at the beginning of the school day and being encouraged to dress a certain way for the video. This year’s “Lip Dub” consisted of a medley of songs, made up of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U,” Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby,” and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating.” The wide song selection was chosen as a way to make the “Lip Dub” more “modern” while also attempting to allow everyone to participate. This year’s CHS “Lip Dub” can be found on the CHS TV Production YouTube channel, @CinnaminsonHSTVProd.
