With a current record of 8-2, the CHS Golf Team has one of the best seasons of this school year.

Coach Bret Jenkins recalls the difficulties the team has had to overcome to get to this point.

“Our biggest challenge was probably because our season started so late, due to all the Covid restrictions that our preseason was so short,” Coach Jenkins said. “We had most of March for preseason last season…instead we had pretty much only a week [this year].”

Despite having less time to prepare, the golf team started the season strong with back-to-back wins in their first two matches against Bordentown and Holy Cross.

The team’s biggest adversary this season was Holy Cross. Losing one and winning one against the Lancers, Coach Jenkins is proud of his team’s strength.

“They’re [Holy Cross] a good team, with a lot of good offers,” Coach Jenkins said.

The team competed in a tri-match against Pennsauken and Bordentown for advancement to sectionals. The Pirates came out on top and currently sit at the top of the BCSL Freedom division.

As the team’s sole senior on the team, Jack Stewart takes his position as captain very seriously.

“I feel like I got a job to do, you know to represent my class, and win….being the captain is a pretty big job,” Stewart stated.

Stewart looks fondly on his time on the team, commenting that his time on the team has made his high school experience better.

“My favorite part, I would say is just, going out there and performing with my team – and winning.” Stewart said.

The team looks to finish their season strong with upcoming matches against Moorestown on Thursday, May 13 and Northern Burlington on May 19.
