The 2016 season has been an up and down season for the girls at Cinnaminson.  The Lady Pirates got off to a rough start, with a 1-6 record through April 11.  However, the girls rebounded to win six of their next nine games to bring their win total to seven games.

In this topsy-turvy season, the girls then dropped their next five games before rebounding for an 8-0 victory over Glassboro yesterday to bring their record to 8-12 as of May 17.

While their 8-12 record does not reflect the progression the girls have made, they have already played some of the toughest teams they will play all year. With a 10-2 victory against Buena, the team was then set against some of the most challenging teams in their league. Four losses later, the team came out with another 10-2 win against Pemberton.  Seeing those more difficult teams so early in the season will give the girls confidence when they possibly see those teams later in the playoffs.

In fact, because of the rigor of the team’s schedule, the team benefited from their tough opponents with more power points, resulting in the girls being the four seed in South Jersey Group 2 and open the playoffs hosting a game next Monday against Medford Tech next Monday at 3:45.  If the girls get by that game, they would then host another home game in the second round.

“Moving from Central Group Two to South Group Two has been an amazing accomplishment” head Coach, Ms. Bart explains.

In fact, their schedule is so difficult, that most of the teams the Lady Pirates have lost to this season have 11 wins or more, and some have more, including Holy Cross, Riverside, Pennsville, Northern Burlington, Bordentown and Rancocas Valley.  This tough schedule will get the girls ready for the upcoming playoffs.

CHS Softball is very fortunate to have a whole new group of girls coming to play this season. All of the teammates love the game and work hard during their off season to prepare for the softball season. Being on other teams helps the girls tremendously because it shows how ready they are for softball at CHS and “it shows in their play” says Coach Bart.

For this year, Seniors Morgan Hawk, Brooke Figiel, and Olivia Pestridge are the captains of the team. Their leadership shines through their heart for the game and how well all the girls connect with each other. They all have a great time together and the CHS Softball program is fortunate to have such great leadership in the seniors this year.

Figiel recently set the team into a positive path with her 100th hit occurring in the win against Bordentown on Monday, April 25. After her hit, the Lady Pirates continued on a successful path with another win against Florence. However after their peak, a valley came as the team consecutively lost to Bordentown Township twice (once in a league game, the other a tournament).

On May 7, the team played Florence and the Lady Pirates scored four runs early on in the second inning, but Florence came back in the third to score 6 and then another run in the fourth. The final score was a 7-4 loss. In their game against Pemberton, the game ended with almost the same score of 8-3 as the Lady Hornets avenged an early-season defeat to Cinnaminson. While the Pirates scored all their runs in the third, Pemberton scored every other inning, slowly giving them the win.

The girls however will positively begin this new week after an 8-0 shutout win over Glassboro.

Although the season is coming to an end, the whole team and coaches are  very excited for this what is left of it.
