Saturday, October 16th, is CHS’s annual Homecoming dance! As part of the festivities, the Pirates football team will face off against the Moorestown Quakers tonight at 6:00 p.m. The Pirates hold a 3-4 record going into the game, while the Quakers are currently 1-6.
Building up to the football game, students have embraced this year’s Homecoming theme of streaming services. The excitement and energy in the halls are palpable.
“I can’t wait!” freshman Ashton Farrington said.
From buying dresses to finding dates and hanging posters in the hallways, students are displaying their anticipation for homecoming.
“I like seeing all the students so excited, and I get to know more students this way, you know, selling tickets, organizing games, and checking them in at the dances,” Student Council advisor Michele Forbes said.
With the final day of Spirit Week upon us, all students will compete in today’s pep rally in the gym after a week of competing in spirit days. Days included Pinkout, where everybody wore their pink outfits. Thursday was Celebrity Day, which featured students dressing like famous singers, such as Britney Spears and Bruno Mars, or funky chefs like Guy Fieri. Some also dressed as their favorite athletes. Spirit Week culminates with today’s class color day. Freshmen are wearing grey, sophomores are in white, juniors are in red, and seniors are in black.

The homecoming committee also made homecoming posters for every grade. Since this year’s theme is streaming services, each class put in great effort and hard work into these banners that line the hallway windows. The freshman class used their resources for the service Paramount Plus, including fun shows like “Dora,” “Paw Patrol,” and “Victorious.” Sophomores had Peacock, so they put shows like “SNL,” “Jimmy Kimmel’s Late Night Show,” and “The Office” on their posters. Juniors chose Netflix and did a fantastic job featuring shows like “Stranger Things,” “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” and “Outer Banks” on their posters. To top it off, the seniors had the streaming platform Disney+ and featured beloved movies like “Hamilton,” “Toy Story,” and “Star Wars” in their hallways. Some posters even have interactive elements to them, making the sound from a particular show or movie, so be sure to check them out!
Earlier this week, Homecoming representatives for Homecoming Court were also announced.
“I am so very grateful for this, I honestly can’t believe it,” Elizabeth Zimmerman, the freshman representative, said.
The sophomore representative is Gemma Wolf, while the junior representative is Meghan Donelson. As for the seniors, Maddie Donelson, Abigail Fried, Jesse Kern, Kennadi Kuzowsky, Olivia McQuaid, Hailey O’Brien, Olivia Ruggieri, Ryleigh Sommerville, Tomi Taiwo, and Allison Yodis are this year’s representatives for the senior class.
Forbes, along with Mrs. Mary Orphanos, co-advisor of Student Council, made incoming freshmen and new students a “survival guide” for what to expect or see during Spirit Week. According to Forbes, the Pep Rally this year is supposed to be the best it’s ever been due to new games and activities that include a big game of tug of war with the freshmen versus the seniors! Forbes also said this year’s committee is making more of an effort to incorporate new students to participate in the fun games instead of ‘reusing’ the ones who have already done it. Lastly, there will be a new DJ and photobooth at Saturday night’s dance.
Homecoming is not only about the dance and the fun football game, but it’s also about school spirit and community. Homecoming brings the whole school together, including the teachers. From wearing fun school colors to cheering at the pep rally, being part of homecoming is being part of something bigger than yourself. It’s meant to be a fun and exciting thing to do to break up the same school routine and celebrate Pirate pride! So, try to make this Homecoming the best it will ever be, Pirates!
As a final piece of advice from freshman Lily Lehman, “Don’t forget to smile!”
