The Cinnaminson Marching band dominated its competition this past fall season when they finished first in both the state and regional competitions. Additionally, the band’s show, entitled “Bent,” took home second place and High Percussion at the Atlantic Coast Championships.
Under the leadership of Dr. Nick DiSalvio, the marching band continues to grow and thrive. The band’s success this year has been extremely impressive.
“It’s been a great season so far, we’ve had a lot of success,” DiSalvio said.
Due to the band’s success this past season, they have been promoted to the open competitive class for next season.
“We’ve surpassed a lot of our goals,” DiSalvio said. “We’re building on a lot of momentum from last season.”
A contributing factor to the marching band’s success is its members’ commitment, especially that of drum major Robert Jacob, a junior, who helps lead the band.
“Leadership has to keep the energy going, set a good example, and yeah, just be there when anyone asks questions, or if anyone’s struggling,” Jacob said of his role.
Jacob said he is grateful to be a member of the band as it has shaped his high school experience and him as a person.
“It’s changed my life. I’ve been here for, this is my fourth year, and it’s made me a lot more dedicated,” Jacob said. “It’s made me a lot more focused and determined, and it’s overall just made me a better person.”
Comprising the other half of the band is the color guard, led by junior Abigail Fried. Fried has been in color guard for three years, and is a dedicated member. Like Jacob, she enjoys her time with the band.
“Color guard means… to me it means performance,” Fried said. “In a sense, I’m like a kind of performer.”
Fried describes the rush of excitement and the thrill that comes with performing.
“When you’re actually on the field you like, hear the applause, and see all these people, and you’re projecting, and like smiling to the judges and stuff, it’s all just like, it feels great,” Fried said.
