Joining the Cinnaminson High School teaching staff as a new member of the math department this year is Ms. Amanda Mason, an ACC Algebra I and Algebra II teacher. Mason has been teaching for 10 years, after graduating high school from Paul VI and attending Temple University where she majored in secondary education with a concentration in math. Before becoming a Cinnaminson Pirate, she taught at Collingswood High School.
As a child, she always enjoyed school, especially math. Mason said she knew she wanted to become a teacher in part because of a movie she watched and because her mom was a teacher.
“My mom is a teacher and also as a kid I watched Freedom Writers and knew I wanted to be a teacher based off of that,” Mason said.
In addition to being a teacher, Mason is also a mom. She has two children: Hadley, who is three years old, and Ray, who is 10 months old. Besides becoming more familiar with Cinnaminson, Mason said one of her goals for this school year is balancing her duties as both a mom and teacher.
“Getting to know Cinnaminson High school from the inside and not just looking from the outside and juggling being a mom of two little ones and teaching at the same time,” Mason said of her goals for the year.
In order to accomplish these goals, Mason knows she has to give herself some grace as she is learning and adjusting to the new routine and district.
As a former Collingswood High School teacher, Mason said she had hoped to work in the Cinnaminson School District one day. She said she knew of its good education and has family members in the area.
“My family lives in Cinnaminson, so I knew it was a good district so I knew I wanted to work here.”
When not teaching math or spending time with her family, Mason likes to take dance classes and is an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
Besides meeting new people and students Mason said she is excited to learn from her students and see what new things CHS has to offer.
