With the fall season upon us and Halloween a highlight, the season is not complete without a Halloween-themed movie. From “The Shining” to “The Nightmare Before Christmas” the movies range from downright horrifying to animated. Here are some movies you cannot skip out on when during the fall season.
Iconic Classics
1. It
This adaptation is taken straight from the Stephen King book of the same name which details the chilling character of Pennywise. Pennywise, the clown of Derry, Maine who reappears every 27 years, is out for blood, along with the group of kids who team up to defeat him.
2. Halloween
The fall season is not complete without a screening of the iconic original movie in the famous franchise. Halloween chronicles the tale of a young Laurie Strode who tries to escape the terrifying Michael Myers on a chilling Halloween night.
3. Carrie
The classic Carrie, adapted from a Stephen King novel, details Carrie White a high school student who is relentlessly taunted by classmates and even her mother. Things start heating up when strange things begin to happen all around her, which makes her suspect she might have supernatural abilities. The tension keeps on building with the attendance of Carrie at prom.
4. A Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween is unfinished without seeing the first film in the complete A Nightmare on Elm Street series. The story follows Nancy Thompson, the main character of the film, who joins with her friends in order to uncover the truth of why she and her friends are being targeted by the intimidating Freddy Krueger.
5. Scream
After a deadly phone call between the antagonist Ghostface and Casey, the rest of the movie uses game-like tactics based on horror movies to show Ghostface preying on his victims. The main character, Sidney, and her friends navigate their lives with the new villian roaming around.
6. Hocus Pocus
This film details the lives of Salem Massachusesetts teenagers Max, Dani, and Allison after they accidentally revive the legendary Sanderson Sisters one Halloween night. Now that the witches are back, they will do anything to keep their power alive…even murder.
7. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Finally, this list cannot be completed without the mention of this renowned film. In this animated movie created by Tim Burton, it tracks the lives of Jack Skellington and Sally living in Halloweentown after Jack takes a trip to the neighboring Christmastown. With the new knowledge of Christmastown and the traditions with it, Jack rethinks his entire life, even bringing the whole town in on the events.

8. Hocus Pocus 2
The sequel to the iconic original premiered on September 30 on Disney+, coming out almost 30 years after the first one. The sequel continues with the story of the haunting Sanderson Sisters and how they are revived yet again by a group of kids on Halloween night. After accidentally bringing back the witches, Becca and Izzy must band together to stop the witches from creating chaos once again.
9. Halloween Ends
This is the end of the horror franchise Halloween. Premiering in theaters all over the United States on October 14, this movie concludes the exciting and lengthy Halloween series. With the legendary villain Michael Myers returning for revenge, Laurie Strode once again will have to defend herself and her new family.
