With their record standing strong at 10-3, the Cinnaminson Girls soccer team is ready for victory.

Assistant girls’ soccer coach Derek Moore said the girls are small in numbers this year but powerful. According to Coach Moore, working together as a team has been the key to their successful season so far.

This is clear in their recent win against Northern Burlington.  The team won 2-1 after going into overtime.

“We are small in numbers this year so it doesn’t give us much depth but players have more of a connection,” Coach Moore said.  “They work together well this season.”

The seven seniors this year have taken on their role as the base of the team.  Coach Moore said he believes the captains, Senior Emma Fugel and Senior Carly Yeager, provide the backbone of the team and their ability to lead is what the team needs in order to excel.

“The maturity of our seniors is the anchor of our team,” Coach Moore said.

The season’s only losses were to Moorestown, RV, and Delran.  Their game against Moorestown was close with the score ending 3-2.

Senior Emma Fugel leads the team in points this season with 17 goals; senior Veronica Campbell is the second-highest scorer with 5 goals. Fugel also leads the team in assists, with eight, and once again, she is followed by Campbell, who has four assists. The team has combined has scored 42 goals, with their goalie, junior Lea DelGrippo making 41 saves.

Still 5-0 on their home field, the girls’ soccer team is ranked fourth overall in the BCSL conference, trailing only behind  Medford Tech, RV and Palmyra.

Senior Captain Carly Yeager shares that she felt the first loss against Moorestown was the most challenging this season.  She explained how she thought the outcome would be different because they had beaten them before.

“We thought it would be an easy win,” Yeager said.  “It was an eye opener and reminded us that we needed to work harder to get better.”

The girls’ effort paid off. In their second game against Moorestown, the girls were able to redeem themselves with a 4-0 win at home on Oct. 13.

Yeager said she feels that being a captain is an honor even if there is a lot of pressure.

“It is an honor to have people look up to you,” Yeager said.  “Sometimes it can be hard because there is a lot put on you.”

Yeager explains how she is motivated by her fellow teammates.

“We are a lot closer this year,” Yeager said.  “A big motivation for me is being there for my team.”

The team’s goalie, junior Lea DelGrippo, attributes the success they’ve had on the field to the close bond the team has developed.

“This season we bond more than in the past which has led to more success,”  DelGrippo said.  “We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ve been working together as a unit.”

Coach Moore said he believes the girls have the ability to win and move forward as long as they continue to work hard in order to get where they need to be.

“If we do the things we should do, we could end up South Jersey champs,” Coach Moore said.  “As long as we do work and get results.”

Currently, the girls’ soccer team is 11-3, 7-3 in the BCSL Liberty Division. To find out updates about the girls’ soccer team, visit nj.com for more information.
