October 4, 2016
This year, the Ship’s Log will be running a brief feature on all new teachers and educational staff. We have tried to pare down the information about the staff member and are including all the pertinent information about that staff member that he/she has shared with us.
*Name – Charles Casey
*Subject Taught – Algebra 1
*Grades Taught – 8th Grade
*College Alma Mater(s) – Rutgers U. – New Brunswick
What is your background and experience in education prior to coming to CHS?
I worked at Y.A.L.E. school in Cherry Hill as a teaching assistant for the 2013-2014 school year. I then worked at Camden’s Promise Charter School teaching 8th grade algebra for two years.
What made you come to CHS?
While I learned a lot at my previous school and enjoyed working there very much, I decided I really wanted to come back and teach at my alma mater. At my time at CHS, I learned a lot from many different teachers and I was excited at the opportunity to be “that” teacher for someone else.
What do you have to offer to the students of CHS?
Besides the obvious knowledge of mathematics, I have to offer the students of Cinnaminson the experience of recently navigating college. Besides experiencing the current job market in teaching, I have close friends who are young professionals in various careers with experiences worth sharing.
What drove you to become a teacher?
I always enjoy helping people and I was always good at math so it was kind of a no-brainer.
Outside of teaching what are your interests?
I enjoy sports, movies, and music. I will watch anything from football to handball to water polo. I also have a wide variety of movies and music that I like. I know everyone says they like all types of music but my iPod has 3,000 songs of all types. I also love debating sports, movies, and music because I think that tells more about someone than just listing what they like.
